Kommunal is one of Sweden’s biggest trade unions. The majority of our members are welfare professionals. Kommunal works towards working life that is fairer and more secure – to increase your salary, improve your working hours and create a positive work environment.
Who can join?
Kommunal is the union for those who work within municipalities, local authorities, the Church, the civic sector, agriculture or private companies (who work for municipalities or local authorities). You can join regardless of whether you are in permanent employment, have a short-term contract, are a seasonal employee or substitute. A special student membership is available for those studying towards one of Kommunal’s focus professions.
Membership discount
There is a welcome discount for new members who decide to pay their membership by direct debit (autogiro) – the first two months will only cost SEK 80. Your standard membership fee will be based on your monthly salary.

Job support and security
As a Kommunal member, you are entitled to expert advice and support should anything happen at work. The collective agreement regulates important working conditions, and our legal team is available if you need help in the event of a crisis. What’s more, you can get a good insight into what applies since we understand your profession and your industry.

Our courses (either online or in person) teach you everything you need to know about your rights and how to boost your influence in the workplace. Training scholarships are also available, giving you the means to be able to set aside time for learning.
